As a part of my coursework in EME5601, I prepared an instructional systems model proposal for ESRD Laboratory (esrdtrainingproposal.doc). I found a significant performance gap (page 8) in the existing training model being used at ESRD Laboratory, where training effectiveness was being hampered by an ad hoc approach to instructional design, and training dollars were being wasted by applying training to performance problems that were not knowledge related. I proposed the company adopt a formal instructional systems model that combines Mager and Pipe's performance analysis approach with instructional design elements primarily drawn from Dick and Carey's ISD model (page 9). The proposal was designed to help close the identified performance gap by more selectively applying training dollars, making the training process more driven by system competencies rather than individual competencies, and assuring that training was aligned with the company's business model (page 15).
