I believe that media and technology use may be my strongest category, hence the highly skilled rating. I have been an avid user of technology and media in my instructional design work for many years, seeing it as an avenue to effectively bridge the time-distance gap that is inherent in distance education. I am painfully aware of the false hopes that have surrounded every technology advance over the past century, but hopeful based on the profound effect media has had on education throughout recorded history (for details see my EME5457 project on the history of media in education). Note that this production was produced in my first semester in the program. Having graduated from relying primarily on video production and Powerpoint presentations for nearly every project to media selection based on the audience characteristics, learning preferences, and the performance context. I have strong skills in video scripting, production and editing, as well as more iterative technologies such as Flash and Authorware. My print and presentation work frequently incorporates Visio diagrams, mind maps, illustrations and screen captures to both gather learner attention and present examples to promote relevance. I have learned to use media based interactive practice activities to build learner confidence and satisfaction.
